Gingerbread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. shortening
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 egg
    1 c. cane sugar
    2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour, sifted
    1 tsp. soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 tsp. cloves
    1 tsp. ginger
    1 c. boiling water
Preparation
    Cream shortening and sugar.
    Beat in egg and add syrup. Sift together
    flour, soda, salt and spices.
    Add dry ingredients to mixture;
    stir
    until
    smooth.
    Add boiling water and again, stir until
    smooth.
    (Do not beat.) Bake in a 350\u00b0 oven for 20 to
    25 minutes.
    Serve
    with sliced banana and whipped cream.
