Ingredients

3/4 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1/4 c. molasses
2 1/4 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
1/4 tsp. salt
2 Tbsp. sugar
3 doz. red cinnamon candies
Preparation

Cream together shortening and sugar until fluffy.
Add eggs and molasses; blend well.
Sift together next 6 ingredients.
Stir into creamed mixture.
Form balls, using 1 teaspoon dough.
Roll in sugar and place about 2-inches apart on a greased baking sheet. Bake 10 minutes or until golden brown at 375\u00b0.
Place a red cinnamon candy in middle of each cookie.
Yield: 3 dozen.
