Ingredients

1 c. dark molasses
1 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1 egg, slightly beaten
1/2 c. boiling water
4 c. flour
Preparation

Preheat oven to 375\u00b0.
Sift all dry ingredients together; set aside.
In large mixing bowl, cream shortening and sugar together; add molasses and egg; mix thoroughly.
Add boiling water and vanilla to molasses mixture and blend well.
Slowly beat dry ingredients into molasses mixture; blend thoroughly.
Drop by spoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet.
Bake for 10 to 12 minutes.
