Italian Pasta Sauce #1 - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 Tbsp. oil
    1 lb. ground pork, veal, chicken or beef, or, 1/2 lb. sweet Italian sausage and 1/2 lb. hot Italian sausage (optional)
    2 or 3 Tbsp. spanish onion, finely chopped
    1 large or 2 small garlic cloves, finely chopped or pressed
    1/4 c. sliced or chopped fresh mushrooms (optional)
    1/4 c. fresh sweet basil, chopped, or 1 tsp. dry basil
    1/4 c. fresh parsley, finely chopped
    1 can (28 oz.) tomatoes*
    1 can tomato paste*
    Salt and black pepper to taste
Preparation
    *Or, one 14 ounce can of crushed tomatoes and 1/2 can of tomato paste with equal amounts of water.
