Ingredients

2 c. Brown sugar
1 c. Shortening
3 Eggs
1 tsp. Baking soda
1 tsp. Cream of tartar
4 c. Flour
1 tsp. Vanilla
1 c. Chopped pecans
Preparation

Cream together the sugar and shortening, add the eggs and vanilla.
Add cream of tartar and baking powder with the first cup of flour.
Stir in the rest of the flour and the nuts, it will be stiff.
Form into 2 loaves, wrap in waxed paper and refrigerate overnight.
Cut into 1/4-inch slices.
Bake at 350\u00b0f. 180\u00b0c. gas mark 4 for 10-12 minutes.
