Ingredients

3 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. soda
1 c. shortening or butter
1 beaten egg
3/4 c. milk
1 1/4 c. raisins
Preparation

Mix dry ingredients together in a large bowl.
Cut in shortening until the mixture is mealy.
Add egg, milk and raisins and mix (dough is stiff).
Roll out on floured board to 1/4-inch thickness.
Cut with 2 inch cookie cutter.
Heat griddle and oil lightly.
Place cookies on it.
As the bottoms brown, the tops become puffy.
Turn with spatula and brown other side.
