Cherry Squares - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 c. flour
    2 c. sugar
    2 tsp. soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    2 c. shortening
    2/3 c. milk
    3 eggs (use 2 yellows and 1 whole egg; save whites of 2 eggs for top)
    2 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Mix dry ingredients together.
    Add shortening.
    Mix as for pie dough.
    Add milk and eggs as suggested.
    Pat or roll 1/2 of dough onto cookie sheet.
    Cover with 2 cans of cherries (sweetened to taste).
    Cover cherries with remaining dough.
    (May be latticed if desired.)
    Cover top with 2 beaten egg whites.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 40 to 45 minutes.
