Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 qt. sliced cucumbers
    6 medium onions, sliced
    1/3 c. pickling salt
    5 c. sugar
    3 c. white vinegar
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
    2 Tbsp. mustard seed
Preparation
    Combine cucumbers, onions and salt.
    Cover with cold water and ice.
    Let soak 3 hours.
    Combine sugar, vinegar, turmeric, celery seed and mustard seed in a large pot.
    Bring to a boil. Add drained cucumbers and onions. Return to a boil.
    Put in hot jars. Seal jars.
    Yields 6 quarts or 12 pints.
