Pralines - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 c. sugar
    1 c. buttermilk
    3 Tbsp. butter or margarine
    1 tsp. soda
    1 c. pecans, chopped
    1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
    1/8 tsp. salt
Preparation
    Combine sugar, buttermilk, butter and soda in a heavy, 3 to 4-quart saucepan and cook slowly until mixture reaches the soft ball stage, 236\u00b0.
    Add vanilla, pecans and salt.
    Cook 1 minute. Remove from heat and beat until mixture thickens.
    Drop by tablespoons on wax paper or a buttered marble slab.
    Makes 40.
