Aunt Bess' Dill Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/8 tsp. alum
    1 clove garlic
    2 heads dill
    1 hot pepper
    cucumbers
    1 qt. vinegar
    3 qt. water
    1 c. pickling salt
Preparation
    Put first five ingredients in quart jar.
    Boil together last three ingredients.
    Pour vinegar mixture over cucumbers in
    hot jars and seal.
