German Chocolate Cake - cooking recipe

1 pkg. German chocolate
1/2 c. boiling water
1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
4 egg yolks
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk
4 egg whites
Preparation

Mix flour, soda and salt together and set aside.
Melt chocolate in boiling water.
Then cream shortening, sugar and yolks.
Add chocolate mixture to the creamed mixture.
Add vanilla and add flour mixture and buttermilk alternately.
Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.
Bake in 3 prepared cake pans or loaf pan at 350\u00b0 for 35 to 40 minutes.
