Mama'S Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 gal. medium size cucumbers
    8 small white onions
    1 sweet green pepper
    1 hot green pepper
    1 sweet red pepper
    1/2 c. salt
    5 c. sugar
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    1 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
    2 tsp. mustard seed
    2 tsp. celery seed
    5 c. vinegar
    Cracked ice
Preparation
    Slice cucumbers (as Mama says, \"kindly thin\"), onions and pepper into a large crock, do not use metal.
    Add salt.
    Cover with ice and mix; let stand 3 hours or longer.
    Drain.
    Combine vinegar, sugar and spices.\tMix with cucumbers.
    Bring to a boil. Seal in sterilized jars.
    Makes 8 quarts.
    Use a crock or churn, no metal containers.
