Layered Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 head lettuce
    1 c. celery, thinly sliced
    1 box frozen Petit peas
    1/2 c. chopped green pepper
    1 small can water chestnuts, thinly sliced
    1 medium onion, finely chopped
    8 slices crisp bacon, crumbled
    2 c. mayonnaise
    2 tsp. sugar
    4 oz. grated Cheddar cheese
Preparation
    Tear lettuce into bite-size pieces.
    Layer the rest of the ingredients in order listed.
    Mix mayonnaise and sugar.
    Spread over top, then top with Cheddar cheese.
    Cover and chill before serving.
