Fancy Vidalia Onions Au Gratin - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 1/2 to 3 c. Vidalia onions, cut into thin rings
    1/2 c. self-rising flour
    1 egg, beaten
    2 Tbsp. butter
    2 c. grated Cheddar or Swiss cheese
    1/2 c. additional cheese and butter
    salt and pepper
Preparation
    Saute onions in butter until soft, but not browned.
    Mix together the flour, 2 tablespoons butter, egg, cheese, salt and pepper.
    Add to onions and mix well.
    This mixture will be \"goopy\" and sticky but will all melt together when cooked.
    Pour mixture into a buttered casserole.
    Top with 1/2 cup additional cheese. Bake at 350\u00b0 for 20 to 30 minutes.
    Best to use 1/2 Cheddar and 1/2 Swiss mixed for this casserole.
