Ingredients

1 c. sugar
1/2 c. lard
1 egg, beaten
2 c. sifted flour
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
3/4 c. buttermilk
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
Preparation

Cream sugar and lard.
Stir in eggs.
Sift together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and nutmeg.
Add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk until well blended.
Stir in extract.
Drop on greased cookie sheet in mounds of 2 tablespoons each, about 2 inches apart.
Leave them well-rounded.
Sprinkle lightly with sugar and bake in a moderate oven (375\u00b0) for 12 minutes.
Makes about 2 1/2 dozen cookies.
Good iced with the following Butter Frosting.
