Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 gal. + 1 pt. sliced cucumbers
    1 1/2 qt. onions, sliced
    1/2 c. salt
    5 c. sugar
    1 qt. vinegar
    1/4 tsp. ground pepper
    1 tsp. turmeric
    1 tsp. celery seed
    2 tsp. mustard seed
Preparation
    Soak cukes, onions and pepper in ice water for 2 hours.
    Mix vinegar, sugar and all spices and bring to a boil.
    Drain cukes and add small amount to vinegar at a time.
    When cukes begin to change color, pack in sterilized jars.
    Cover with vinegar and seal tight.
