Grandma Briden'S Black And White Pie - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 (9-inch) baked pie shell
    1 Tbsp. unflavored gelatin
    1/4 c. cold water
    2 c. light cream
    2 eggs, separated
    6 Tbsp. plus 1/4 c. granulated sugar
    pinch of salt
    1 tsp. almond extract
    1 oz. unsweetened chocolate, melted
    1 tsp. vanilla extract
    2 medium bananas, sliced
Preparation
    Soak gelatin in cold water 5 minutes.
    Scald cream in a heavy saucepan.
    Beat egg yolks with 6 tablespoons sugar and salt. Slowly add cream, stirring constantly.
    Return mixture to the pan and cook over low heat about 5 minutes until thickened.
    Remove from heat and stir in softened gelatin.
    Pour into a bowl and chill until it mounds with a spoon.
    Beat egg whites until frothy. Add 1/4 cup sugar gradually, beating until stiff.
    Fold into chilled custard.
    Divide mixture in half.
    Add almond flavoring to one half; blend well and pour into pie shell.
    To remaining half, add melted chocolate and vanilla flavoring.
    Pour over first layer.
    Chill.
    Just before serving, arrange banana slices in a circle on top of the pie.
    Serves 6 to 8.
