Ella Lee Wigals Lye Soap(1960) - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1 can lye
1 qt. cold water
2 qt. grease
2 Tbsp. Borax
1/2 c. water
1 c. ammonia

Preparation

Dissolve lye in 1 quart of cold water.
Melt grease and cool until lukewarm.
Dissolve Borax in 1/2 cup water.
Slowly pour the lye in the grease.
Stir until thick as honey, then add Borax and 1 cup ammonia.
Stir until thick and pour into square pan.
I cut it when it hardens.
Use in 4 weeks.
