Mom'S Cucumber Tsukemono - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 to 4 large cucumbers, cut in 1-inch slices
    1/4 c. Hawaiian salt
    3 c. water
    2 Tbsp. sugar
    1 piece garlic, smashed
    chili pepper (optional)
    1/4 c. vinegar
Preparation
    Boil 1 1/2 cups water and 1/4 cup Hawaiian salt until salt is completely dissolved.
    Cool.
    Pour over cucumbers and let stand for 30 minutes.
    Drain and pack loosely in jars.
    Mix sugar, vinegar, 1 1/2 cups water, garlic and chili pepper.
    Pour over cucumbers and refrigerate.
