Northern Bean Soup With Ham - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. dry Northern beans, washed and drained
    4 ham hocks
    6 slices bacon, chopped real fine (can fry bacon and use grease)
    1 small head cabbage, chopped up
    1 large onion, chopped
    3 large carrots, chopped
    2 stalks celery, chopped
    1/2 tsp. garlic powder
    1 bay leaf (remove at end)
    salt and pepper to taste
    16 oz. can peeled tomatoes, chopped
Preparation
    In a large pot, add all of the ingredients and bring to a boil. Then let simmer for a couple of hours, stirring occasionally or until beans are tender.
    Then add 3 cups of diced potatoes (this is optional).
