Date Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 lb. dates, chopped or 1 c.
    1 tsp. baking soda (over dates)
    1 c. boiling water
    1/2 c. brown sugar
    1 Tbsp. butter
    1 egg
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 c. flour
    1/2 c. walnuts
Preparation
    Combine first 3 ingredients.
    Let stand until cool.
    Combine butter, sugar and date mix.
    Sift flour, baking powder and salt. Add to other ingredients.
    Pour into well-greased loaf pan (9 x 5 x 3-inch).
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 1 hour or until wooden toothpick thrust into center comes out clean.
