Penny Sweet Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 gal. pickles, sliced or chunked
    1 c. salt
    water
    3 Tbsp. alum
    2 Tbsp. ginger
    1 qt. vinegar
    1/2 tsp. whole cloves
    3 lb. sugar
    2 tsp. celery seed
    1 cinnamon stick, break in several pieces
Preparation
    Cover pickles with salt and water.
    Let stand 3 days.
    Drain and cover with water and add alum.
    Bring to a boil and drain again.
    Cover with water and add ginger.
    Boil again and drain. Add vinegar, sugar, celery seed, cloves and cinnamon.
    Boil 1/2 hour and can.
