Lady Baltimore Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 c. sifted flour
    3 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 c. milk
    1/2 c. water
    1/4 tsp. almond extract
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    3 egg whites, stiffly beaten
    1/2 c. butter or other shortening
Preparation
    Sift flour once.
    Measure;
    add baking powder and salt. Sift again
    together.
    Cream
    butter
    thoroughly;
    add
    sugar gradually until
    light and fluffy.
    Add flour alternately with liquid, a small
    amount
    at a time.
    Beat after each addition until smooth. Add
    flavoring.
    Fold in egg whites.
    Bake in 2 greased 9-inch layer pans in a 375\u00b0 oven for 20 minutes.
    Cool and frost.\tDouble recipe for 3 (10-inch) layers.
