Fruit Cocktail Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. sugar
    1 egg, beaten
    1 c. flour
    1 can (medium size) fruit cocktail (juice left in)
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/4 tsp. cinnamon
    1/4 tsp. nutmeg
    1/8 tsp. cloves (optional)
Preparation
    Mix above ingredients well.
    Put in a 9 x 9-inch pan lined with the following:
    1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/4 cup margarine (melted).
    If desired, sprinkle the top with nuts.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 35 to 40 minutes.
    Serve with ice cream or whipped cream.
