Old-Fashioned Chicken And Dumplings - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 (2 1/2 to 3 lb.) broiler-fryer
    2 qt. water
    1 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. pepper
    2 c. plain flour
    1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    3 Tbsp. shortening
    3/4 c. buttermilk
Preparation
    Place chicken in Dutch oven.
    Add water and 1 teaspoon salt. Bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat and simmer 1 hour or until chicken is tender.
    Remove chicken and let cool slightly.
    Bone chicken and set aside.
