Easy Caramels - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. butter
    1 lb. (2 1/4 c.) brown sugar, (light), packed
    Dash of salt
    1 c. light corn syrup
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1- 15 oz. can sweetened condensed milk
Preparation
    Melt butter in heavy sauce pan.
    Add brown sugar and salt. Combine thoroughly. Blend in corn syrup.
    Gradually add condensed milk, stirring constantly.
    Cook and stir over medium heat until candy reaches firm ball stage, about one half hour.
    Remove
    from heat and add vanilla.
    Pour into well buttered 8 x 12 in. glass pan.
    Cool thoroughly and cut into squares.
