Almond Cookies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
    1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1/4 tsp. salt
    3/4 c. unsalted butter or margarine at room temperature
    3/4 c. granulated sugar
    1 large egg
    1 Tbsp. almond extract
    yolk of 1 large egg, beaten with 1 Tbsp. water
    24 whole blanched almonds
Preparation
    Sift flour with baking powder and salt.
    In a large bowl beat butter, sugar, egg and almond extract with a wooden spoon or electric mixer until pale and fluffy.
    Stir in flour mixture to make a smooth dough.
    Refrigerate 1 hour or longer (cover if overnight).
    Heat oven to 350\u00b0.
    Form dough into balls, using a rounded tablespoonful for each, and place 2 inches apart on greased baking sheets.
    Paint cookies with egg yolk mixture and press an almond into the center of each.
    Bake 15 minutes, or until edges are tinged with brown.
    Remove from oven and transfer cookies to a wire rack to cool.
    Makes about 24 cookies.
