Portuguese Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. smoked, sliced Polish style sausage
    2 c. chopped onion
    6 cloves chopped garlic
    6 Tbsp. oil
    10 c. beef stock
    1 (No. 303) can kidney beans
    1 head chopped green cabbage
    12 small quartered new potatoes
    1 (16 oz.) bottle catsup
    1/4 to 1/2 c. vinegar (to taste)
    salt, pepper and handful brown sugar
Preparation
    Brown meat in large soup pot.
    Remove meat.
    Add oil to soup pot and saute onion and garlic.
    Add remaining ingredients and simmer about 45 minutes.
    Adjust seasonings to taste.
