Plum Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 1/3 c. all-purpose flour
    2 Tbsp. fine dry bread crumbs
    3/4 tsp. salt
    1 c. sugar (reserve 1/4 c.)
    1/2 c. shortening
    2 eggs
    2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
    40 fresh plums (prune, Damson or Greengage), pitted and cut in half or use 2 (30 oz.) cans whole purple plums, drained and pitted
    3/4 c. milk
    3 Tbsp. butter, cut in pieces
    1/4 tsp. cloves
Preparation
    Combine flour, baking powder, salt and 3/4 cup sugar in a large mixing bowl.
    Add shortening, milk and eggs.
    Beat at medium speed for
    4 minutes.
    Grease bottom and sides of an 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan.
    Coat with bread crumbs.
    Turn batter into prepared pan.
    Place plums on top, pushing one edge of each half down 1/4-inch into batter.
    Dot with butter.
    Combine remaining 1/4 cup sugar and cloves; mix well.
    Sprinkle over plums.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 about 40 minutes.
