Ingredients

2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 c. buttermilk
3 Tbsp. sour cream
2 tsp. soda
3 1/4 c. flour (may need more later)
2 tsp. soda
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation

Sift together flour, soda and salt.
Mix together sugar, unbeaten eggs, buttermilk, sour cream, nutmeg and vanilla.
Stir until light.
Combine flour and egg mixtures (may need more flour; dough needs to be stiff enough to roll out).
Roll 3/8-inch thick; cut with floured donut cutter.
Fry in deep fat (salad oil, shortening or lard) at 375\u00b0 until golden brown.
Turn once.
Drain on paper.
While warm, roll in 1/2 cup granulated sugar.
