Texas Trash Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    8 c. sliced squash
    4 c. bell pepper, chopped
    1 c. onion, chopped
    1/2 c. salt
    1 gal. water
    3 c. sugar
    2 c. vinegar
    1 Tbsp. celery seed
    1 Tbsp. mustard seed
Preparation
    Soak squash, pepper and onion in the gallon of water and salt. Cover with ice.
    Let stand 2 hours; drain well.
    Mix other ingredients and bring to a boil.
    Drop pickles in hot liquid and bring to a hard boil again.
    Pack in jars.
    Cover with hot liquid and seal.
