Gingerbread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. butter or oleo
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 egg
    1 c. dark syrup
    2 1/2 c. sifted flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. ginger
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 tsp. allspice
    1 1/2 tsp. soda
    1 c. hot water
Preparation
    Cream butter and sugar; add egg and syrup.
    Add dry ingredients which have been sifted together, then add hot water last and beat until smooth.
    Bake in greased and floured pan (13 x 9-inch) for 35 minutes at 350\u00b0 or when you insert toothpick in center and it comes out clean.
    Cool in pan and cover with any simple icing.
