Ingredients

3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. dark molasses
2 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1 egg
Preparation

Melt shortening; remove from heat and cool.
Add sugar, molasses and egg; beat well.
Sift together dry ingredients.
Add to first mixture; mix well.
Chill for an hour or more.
