Candy Cane Cookies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. soft shortening (1/2 butter)
    1 c. sifted powdered sugar
    1 egg
    1 1/2 tsp. almond flavoring
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 1/2 c. sifted flour
    1 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. red coloring
Preparation
    Mix shortening, sugar, egg and flavorings.
    Mix flour and salt and then add to mixture.
    Divide dough in half.
    Blend red coloring in half.
    Roll 1 teaspoon each color on floured board, 4-inches long.
    Press strips together and twist like rope and curve like cane.
    Bake on ungreased baking pan for 9 minutes or until light brown.
    Heat oven to 375\u00b0.
