Ingredients

3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. molasses
1 egg
2 tsp. baking soda
2 c. plain flour
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
Preparation

Melt shortening.
Add sugar, molasses and egg.
Beat well. Sift dry ingredients together.
Add to mixture.
Mix and chill. Shape into 1-inch balls.
Roll in sugar and bake at 375\u00b0 for 8 to 10 minutes.
