German Chocolate Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    2 1/2 c. cake flour
    1 c. Crisco or butter
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 pkg. German's sweet chocolate
    4 egg yolks
    1 c. buttermilk
    1 tsp. soda
    4 egg whites, beaten stiff
Preparation
    Dissolve 1 package German's sweet chocolate, grated, in 1/2 cup boiling water.
    Cool thoroughly.
    Cream Crisco or butter and sugar.
    Add egg yolks and beat well.
    Add 3/4 cup buttermilk and flour alternately.
    Add vanilla.
    Add soda to remaining buttermilk and add to the mixture.
    Add chocolate and water (cooled).
    Then fold in beaten egg whites.
    Bake in 3 well-greased lightly floured 9-inch cake pans.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 25 to 30 minutes.
    Let cake cool slightly in pan.
    Layers are very tender when warm.
