Crispy Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    cucumbers (very fresh)
    plain salt
    alum
    vinegar (I use white)
    9 c. sugar
    pickling spice
Preparation
    Fill a gallon jug with sliced cucumbers (about 1/4 inch thick).
    Add one cup plain salt and water to fill jug.
    Soak 4 days.
    Wash and soak 24 hours in two tablespoons of alum and water to cover cucumbers.
    Wash and cover with vinegar for 10 days. Wash and add 3 cups sugar each day for 3 days.
    Add pickling spice in a cloth (however much you like).
    May be put in pint jars or left in gallon jug.
