Pear Upside-Down Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 Tbsp. butter
    1/2 c. brown sugar
    1/2 c. granulated sugar
    1 egg (unbeaten)
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    2 pears
    maraschino cherries
    1 c. flour
    1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1/3 c. milk
Preparation
    Melt 2 tablespoons butter in an 8-inch square pan.
    Sprinkle brown sugar over butter.
    Pare and core pears; slice in 1/2-inch slices.
    Arrange on top of brown sugar.
    Place a cherry in center of each slice.
    Cream butter.
    Add 1/2 cup granulated sugar. Cream well.
    Add egg; beat until fluffy.
    Add vanilla.
    Mix the sifted flour, baking powder and salt; add to butter mixture alternately with milk.
    Pour batter over pears.
    Bake at 375\u00b0 for 25 to 30 minutes.
