Lasagna - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. sweet or hot Italian sausage
    1 lb. ground beef
    1/2 finely chopped onion
    2 Tbsp. sugar
    3 cloves garlic
    1 1/2 tsp. dried basil
    1 Tbsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. fennel seed
    1/2 tsp. oregano
    1/4 c. parsley
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    4 c. canned tomatoes (undrained; 2 lb. 3 oz.)
    2 cans (6 oz.) tomato paste
    1 box lasagna noodles
    1 (15 oz.) container cottage cheese
    1 egg
    1/2 tsp. salt
    3/4 lb. Mozzarella or Provolone cheese
    1 (3 oz.) jar grated Parmesan cheese, thinly sliced/grated (3/4 c.)
Preparation
    Remove the sausage meat from outer casings (ground pork can be substituted); chop the meat. In 5-quart pan, over medium heat, saute sausage or pork, beef, onion and garlic until well browned, about 20 minutes.
