Ingredients

1 1/2 c. milk, scalded
1/3 c. shortening
4 Tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
2 small cakes or compressed yeast
1/4 c. lukewarm water
2 eggs, beaten
4 3/4 to 5 c. sifted flour
Preparation

Pour hot milk over shortening, sugar, salt and spices; cool to lukewarm and add yeast which has been dissolved in lukewarm water. Add eggs; stir in flour and beat.
Knead to a smooth dough.
Place in a greased bowl, cover and let rise until very light.
Toss on floured board and pat into 1/2-inch thickness.
Cut with a 3-inch cutter and place rings 2 inches apart on buttered baking sheets. Brush with melted butter and let rise in a warm place until double in bulk.
Bake at 425\u00b0 for 8 to 10 minutes in oven.
Remove and brush again with melted butter and roll in granulated sugar.
