Clam Cakes From Rhode Island - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sifted flour
    1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. black pepper
    1 Tbsp. sugar
    1/4 c. cornmeal
    2 eggs
    1 c. milk
    1/2 c. clam juice
    1/2 pint minced clams
    deep fat for frying
Preparation
    Mix together dry ingredients.
    Add eggs, milk, clam juice, and clams.
    Heat oil to 375 degrees and drop batter by the tablespoons into fat.
    Fry until brown.
    Drain on paper towels. Serve with chowder.
