Ingredients

2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
1/2 c. shortening
4 Tbsp. water
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
about 4 c. flour
1/2 c. nuts
Preparation

Cream sugar, eggs and shortening.
Add vanilla and water and mix.
Add salt, soda and cream of tartar.
Mix.
Stir in flour until stiff.
Add nuts.
Make a roll of the dough.
Let stand overnight.
Flour roll so it doesn't stick to board.
Slice and bake at 375\u00b0
for 10 or 12 minutes, or until lightly browned.
