Pickled Beets - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    small young beets
    1 c. sugar
    3/4 c. water
    1 1/4 c. vinegar
    whole cloves
Preparation
    Cook beets until tender.
    Dip
    into cold water and peel off skins.
    Be sure
    to
    leave\tplenty of stalks attached when cooking, otherwise they
    will
    \"bleed\"
    and
    lose their color. Slice or quarter as preferred.
