    1 (3 1/8 oz.) pkg. vanilla pudding
    1/2 c. water
    1/2 c. sherry *
    1/2 c. oil
    1 box yellow cake mix
    crushed walnuts or pecans
    1 stick unsalted butter
    1 c. sugar
    1/4 c. water
    1/2 c. sherry
