Italiano Creams - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 c. white sugar
    1 1/2 c. white corn syrup
    1 large can condensed milk
    1/4 to 1/2 lb. butter
    1 or more c. peanuts or nuts to taste
    1 c. vanilla to taste
Preparation
    Mix sugar, syrup, milk and butter thoroughly; cook gradually until it comes to a boil.
    Beat constantly from the time it is put on the fire until it forms a medium hard ball in cold water.
    Beat well until creamy.
    Add nuts and vanilla.
    Pour onto buttered platter; cut into squares.
