Bean Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. dried navy beans
    6 c. cold water
    1 c. chopped onion
    1/2 clove garlic, minced
    4 oz. cubed ham or salt pork
    1 bay leaf
    4 c. chicken or beef stock
    2 tsp. salt
    1/8 tsp. pepper
Preparation
    Soak beans in water overnight; drain.
    Saute onions, garlic and pork or ham until onions are transparent.
    Combine all ingredients and simmer for about 4 hours.
    Serves 4 to 6.
