Blond Brownies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. sifted flour
    1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1/8 tsp. soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 c. brown sugar
    1/2 c. chopped nuts
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 egg, slightly beaten
    1/2 c. chocolate chips
    1/3 c. butter
Preparation
    When shortening is used add a tablespoon of hot water with the sugar.
    Measure sifted flour, add baking powder, soda and salt and sift again.
    Add nuts and mix well.
    Set aside.
    Melt shortening in saucepan; remove from heat.
    Add sugar and mix well.
    Cool slightly.
    Add egg and vanilla.
    Blend, then add flour mixture, a small amount at a time, mixing well after each addition. Turn into a greased 9 x 9 x 2-inch pan.
    Sprinkle chips over top.
    Bake in oven at 350\u00b0 for 20 minutes (do not overbake).
