Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    10 to 15 lb. large cucumbers
    6 large onions
    1/2 gal. vinegar
    5 lb. sugar
    pickling spices to taste
    green color (optional)
Preparation
    Slice cucumbers thin.
    Soak in plastic or granite ware overnight with 1/2 cup salt.
    Cover well with water.
    Rinse well after soaking.
    Bring syrup and spices (tie in a rag) to a boil. Add cucumbers and onions.
    Bring to a full boil.
    Fill hot sterilized jars and seal.
