Ingredients

1 c. buttermilk
2 c. sugar
5 c. flour
1 tsp. ginger
3 tsp. salt
1 c. molasses
1 c. shortening
1 egg
1 tsp. cinnamon
Preparation

Cream sugar and shortening; then add egg.
Sift dry ingredients alternately with liquid to make a soft dough.
Roll out using plenty of flour on board so they will not stick.
Cut and bake on a cookie sheet.
Bake in a 375\u00b0 oven until brown, depending on thickness.
I like them a little on the thick side. This is an old favorite in our family and has been used for 100 years or more.
