Ingredients

1 lb. (4 sticks) butter
2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
4 c. plain flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cream of tartar
Preparation

Heat oven to 350\u00b0.
Lightly grease cookie sheet.
Cream butter and sugar together.
Add eggs and vanilla.
Add 2 cups flour, then soda, salt and cream of tartar.
Add remaining flour.
Drop tablespoonfuls of dough onto cookie sheet.
Butter bottom of flat bottomed glass.
Dip in sugar and flatten cookies.
Bake 8 to 10 minutes until light brown.
Makes approximately 50 cookies.
